I hate to tell you this, but your dog needs more than walks around the neighborhood on a 6-foot leash. Dogs have species-typical needs that are not being met in a good majority of today's pet-dog population. Not being able to meet a dog's needs, is often the root cause of many problem behaviors we are seeing in everyday cases. Our enrichment program views your dog as a whole based off of genetics, lifestyle, personality, environment, and more. We then work to create a customized plan that taps into who your dog is and how best they can thrive in our modern world.

What is the Canine Enrichment Program?

Canine Enrichment is your dog engaging in activities that demonstrate their species-typical behaviors such as chewing, digging, sniffing, etc. Engaging in these activities gives them agency over their environment and enhances their overall well-being.

Within this program, Meadow & Mates will help to create a custom enrichment plan/schedule for your dog(s) based on who they are and what they like to do. No two dogs are alike and so what one dog enjoys, the other may see the activity as less ideal.

Why implement enrichment into your pup's routine?

Dogs that are under-stimulated may find ways to enrich themselves resulting in behavior that is destructive or unwanted. Enrichment provides outlets for behaviors that us humans see as “bad”. An example is a dog that counter surfs may benefit from activities that cater to foraging for food such as scattering food in the grass or around the house for your pup to sniff out and find.

What most think enrichment is, is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s more than a food-stuffed Kong and puzzle toys. It’s meeting their needs in multiple categories (olfactory, cognitive, physical, social, etc.) and creating a plan that caters to your dog as an individual.
